Acer Aspire 5520 15.4 inch Laptops Review

Acer one of the well-known lsptops maker has announced the launch of its new laptop namely, Acer Aspire 5520. The Acer has decided to pack the Aspire 5520 with 3GB of PC2-5300 DDR2 memory. This let's it run more applications without the need to rely on the swap file giving it slightly better performance when using memory intensive programs or multitasking. The Athlon 64 X2 TK-57 mobile processor can handle most tasks but does trail the Intel Core 2 processor lineup.

Storage wise, the Aspire 5520 is pretty much want one would expect in its price category. A fairly large 160GB hard drive handles all application and data storage. A dual layer DVD burner handles all playback and recording of CDs or DVDs. A built-in 5-in-1 card reader also allows it to interface with most of the popular digital media card storage formats.

Most of the budget systems now use a 15.4-inch widescreen LCD display. Acer sticks with this trend and uses this size screen. It also uses an integrated NVIDIA GeForce 7000M graphics processor to handle annd 2D and 3D graphics. As it is an integrated solution, it doesn't really have any 3D performance behind it, but this is true of all systems in the sub-$750 price range.

The biggest drawback to the Acer Aspire 5520 is its size. It is fairly thick with a 1.7-inch measurement at its thickest. This makes it bigger than the average 15.4-inch notebook system. This doesn't translate into addition weight though. Some might also be upset that it doesn't come with any productivity software at all. This can add some extra expense and time for those that would like it to come with the system.

Acer Aspire 5720 15.4 inch Laptops Review

Acer has launched its new laptop called as Acer Aspire 5720 15.4-inch multimedia laptop, featuring the latest Intel “Santa Rosa” notebook platform and the new “Gemstone” design. new Acer Aspire 5720

The Aspire 5720 is powered by Intel Core 2 Duo processor with clock speeds in range from 1.8GHz to 2.4GHz and 800MHz front side bus. Acer’s new consumer notebook comes in two versions: the first feature Intel GM965 chipset and integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X3100, while the second has PM965 chipset paired with the recently announced ATI Mobility Radeon HD X2300 or DirectX 10-ready HD X2400 XT video card. As same as the similar 5920 with nVidia’s graphics, the Aspire 5720 has 15.4-inch high-brightness (220-nits) CrystalBrite TFT LCD with 1280×800 resolution and 8ms response time. The notebook’s sound is powered by Dolby-certified surround system and two built-in Acer 3DSonic stereo speakers.

The 5720 supports up to 4GB of main memory, when used with 64-bit operating system, since the 32-bit OS supports only up to 3GB. This laptop comes with SATA hard drive and DVD burner, but there is also an optional HD DVD optical drive.

Regarding communications, Acer Aspire 5720 provides 802.11a/b/g wireless, Gigabit Ethernet, a 56k modem and an optional Bluetooth. For audio/video conferencing there is Voice and Video over Internet Protocol (VVoIP) support via Acer CrystalEye web camera and an optional Acer Xpress VoIP phone.

The Aspire 5720 has three USB ports, ExpressCard/54 slot, a 5-in-1 card reader, and Firewire port. For external monitor and TV, there are a DVI-D port with HDCP support on models with dedicated graphics, a VGA out and an S-Video out.

Acer Aspire 7720 17 inch Laptop Review

Dell has customisation, HP has style and funky imprint designs, Apple has hot-Air and Acer, our target today, has cheap prices. When we visited Acer's Aspire range last it was for the launch of its Gemstone inspired design in the shape of Aspire 5920. It was a very capable machine too and was predictably competitively priced for what was a very well featured machine. It walked away with a well deserved Recommended Award, but can Acer repeat the trick with this 17in machine targeted at gamers?

Dubbed the Aspire 7720G (model: 703G25Hn), it ought to be noted from the off that to call this a genuine gaming notebook is something of a misnomer. Housing a 512MB nVidia 8600M GT it does have some gaming credentials, but only in so much as it's more capable than your bog standard portable machine. Ultimately, with the 8600M GT, you'll get some decent performance at medium detail settings in older and less demanding games but you'll struggle to play more recent titles and you can forget straightaway about playing Crysis. Moreover, playing games at the 1,920 x 1,200 native resolution could prove a challenge, so in this respect the high resolution screen is something of a hindrance. Acer Aspire 7720

So, as a gaming notebook it's more Sunday league pretender than full time pro, but does it have anything else going for it? As it happens, it does, because in typical Acer fashion it's packed to the rafters with features at a price that's more than slightly reasonable. Most notable in this respect is the combination of both the 1,920 x 1,200, Full HD capable display and an HD DVD-ROM drive, which still has some great titles on it despite its current status of HD format most likely not to win.

Now, you'd be reasonable to question the sanity of buying a notebook with an HD DVD drive now that the format appears to be losing the format war. However, there is a caveat because, even without said drive, this would be and is a very competitively priced machine. Indeed, given the specification, the HD DVD can practically qualify as value adding freebie.

Powering everything is a very quick Intel Core 2 Duo T7700, running at 2.4GHz with 4MB L2 Cache on-board and an 800MHz FSB (front side bus). There's also 3GBs worth of DDR2 667MHz RAM, which is as much as Windows can handle before moving up to 64-bit, and a 250GB 5,400rpm SATA HDD. Throw in Dolby Home Theatre certified Realtek HD Audio, Draft N Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0+ EDR and Gigabit Ethernet as well and you have a recipe for a very well featured and multi-talented machine.[www.trustedreviews.com]

Overall impression

The Aspire 5920 is the first of the new computer "Gemstone" Acer at home: a team of designers in the BMW has designed a house with a modern look and no edges. The quality of materials is much better than the old Aspire. The outer cover has rounded lines and gloss black with the word holographic "Acer" that enhances particularly, but at the expense of all this, I must observe that bends slightly when pressed firmly. To open the LCD panel using the hollow lifting the webcam as a kind of "handle" (remember that BMW designs cars).

The interior is light gray and has a particular line that can like it or not. Looking closely we can see an excellent build quality and precise assembly, so as not to detect strange failure of the shell around the keyboard. Whew! The speakers are integrated above the keyboard and the length in travel from left to right, while the switches of the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are arranged side instead of on the front of the chassis.

Acer : makes us busy with their new laptops. The company has released not one but four new notebook PCs. The brand new Acer Aspire 8930, 6930, 5735 and 4730 are powered by Acer’s Gemstone platform.
